We're Recruiting Great People to Help Local Families!
Why volunteer?
“… whosoever
preserves a single soul..., scripture ascribes merit to him as though he had
preserved a complete world.” Talmud, Sanhedrin 37a
AJFCS has a strong community presence, providing social services in Palm Beach
County, since 1973.We are a nationally
accredited, non-sectarian organization that assists more than 5,000 clients
each year.As a nonprofit organization, AJFCS
has made a commitment to finding good-fit opportunities for volunteers that
recognize the unique talents and skills of adults, baby-boomers and older
adults. As an AJFCS volunteer, you can
be part of a team that prides itself in offering compassionate services and
outreach to others in need.
What’s in it for you?
A
great Jewish sage, Rabbi Hillel, taught
us “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? And if not
now, when?”
Volunteering
can add a great deal to your life and the lives of those you help.It offers you a chance to become involved in
a project or with an organization you really care about, as well as an
opportunity to meet new people from all walks of life. Best of all, you have
the opportunity to try out something different, make a meaningful contribution
to your community, and experience the benefits and gratification derived from
helping others.
What’s in it for us?
Community
groups and organizations greatly benefit from volunteers by gaining a new and
valued perspective on their work as well as the precious resource of time.Even small commitments can have a lasting
effect on an organization and the people it represents. Volunteers enhance our
capacity to make a difference in the lives of people.
What kind of volunteer opportunities
are there at AJFCS?
Mentoring 4 Kids: Volunteers function as mentors to
children living in a single-parent family, following the loss of a caretaker or
parent.Volunteers are matched with a
child 6-14 years old, and receive ongoing training and support from
professional staff.
Ambassadors®: As
a nontraditional volunteer program, older adults and Boomer volunteers are
trained to function as liaisons, resource specialists, peer-counselors and
agency envoys in their own gated communities.By sharing knowledge, through the creation of a “living network of conversation”,
Ambassadors® can arrive at ways of solving common problems and supporting their
frail neighbors.This is a
non-traditional, grass-roots program that utilizes the unique skills and
talents of individual volunteers who wish to be engaged in life-long learning
and making a difference in the lives of others.
AmeriCorps:“Paid”volunteers, called “Enhanced
Companions” are trained and “matched” with an older adult who needs help with
transportation, grocery shopping, and escort to medical appointments and treatments. This is award- winning program has engaged at
least 150 volunteers over the lifespan of the program, conceived in 1993.
Professional volunteers:Retired
social workers, nurses and others from the helping professions assist agency
staff in providing quality services to clients of the organization.A careful assessment of the volunteer’s
skills and talents are explored and the “best fit” identified, to meet both the
volunteer’s and our organization’s programmatic needs.
Fundraising:AJFCS
raises substantial funds each year to help operate the services of the agency.Volunteers participate in helping organize
fundraising events and educational outreach programs that assist in developing
the financial resources of the organization.
Other volunteer opportunities:
The above
listed projects are only some of the volunteer opportunities available at
AJFCS.Since AJFCS attempts to engage
volunteers who bring their own interests, talents and skills, it would not be
possible to list all of the potential ways volunteers can participate in our
work..You have our commitment that we
will work hard to see how to find a good-fit position at the agency. All ideas are welcome.
How do I become a volunteer?
AJFCS is an
accredited agency and follows national standards. All of our volunteer
positions require an application and references. Some of our volunteer

time.
